Change Your Life With This One Habit
Seems like everyone is always trying to hack their life these days. Around every Youtube corner there is a motivational speaker/entrepreneur selling you some life hack that’s going to exponentially increase your work performance, cognitive output, learning ability, memory, sex life, fat lass, energy, etc. If you’ve tried any of these, (and I know you have because you’re reading an article titled, “Change Your Life With This One Habit”) you probably started, fell in love with the concept, went down a rabbit hole of similar life hacks, and then gradually got busy and stopped doing all of them.
One of, if not the biggest reasons we fail to stick with something is because we try to overhaul too many things at once. Research shows that you’re 3x more likely to stick with a lifestyle change if we focus on only one habit at a time. Once a habit has become cemented into our routine, only then can we add another change to focus on.
So often, this is the opposite of diets and weight loss programs. These miracle, “guaranteed results” programs try to completely overhaul your life in 21 days. Not only are they unsustainable, but typically leave you worse off then when you started.
Instead of trying to hack your life or unrealistically accelerate your results, try focusing on one change at a time.
There are two approaches you can take here. You can either go after the lowest hanging fruit and focus on changing the easiest thing first or you can go in chronological order from the time you wake up. I believe in the power of routine and like the second approach best. Pick one morning hack or habit and master it for a good 6-8 weeks. Once it’s become intrinsic, then add another one. The key is to master that one habit first before adding anything else. No it’s not a fast track to results, but its one way to guarantee you change your life one habit at a time.
